Liberia Cancer Society Ends Ride or Walk Against Cancer

first_imgBike riders of the the 2019 Liberia Cancer Society’s “Bike Ride or Walk Against Cancer” event(Photo:TLC Africa)The Liberia Cancer Society (LCS) has held the 2019 edition of its annual Bike Ride and Walk Against Cancer in Monrovia.The event, held on Sunday, February 24, was marked by sales of T-shirts, long distance walk and bike ride with dozens of walkers, joggers and riders, including international of participants taking part in the event.The aim of the annual event which is held in partnership with the Association of Filipino Bikers in Liberia and the Liberian Bikers Federation, is meant to carry on awareness of all forms of cancer and to raise fund for the LCS to carry out its works.The walk commenced from the Hilton-Van EE School on Broad Street through the Capitol Bye-Pass and UN Drive route before returning to the starting point.LCS president Dana Hilton Van Ee (left) presents certificate of participation to one of the international participants.(Photo: Liberian Observer)Dana Hilton Van Ee, president of the LCS expressed gratitude to the participants and was excited with the number of international participants in this year’s event. The international participants came from countries including Philippines, Russia, Kenya, Nigeria, England, Germany, Pakistan, India, America and Scotland. At the climax of the event, all of the participants received a certificate of participation.Madam Van Ee said the LCS remains committed to providing awareness on all forms of cancer in order to promote a healthy lifestyle. Since its reactivation in 2012 after the Liberian civil war, the LCS has been working with closely with the Ministry of Health and other partners and recognized by the ministry as the lead civil society organization on awareness and advocacy for cancer treatment and prevention for all of the cancer-specific organizations in the country.Established in 1977, the LCS serves as advocates and liaison, support healthy lifestyle choices, free screening, counseling and provides awareness on Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccine.Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)last_img
